FAQ's

Q.1    Are the courses full time or part time?

We offer a choice of full time or part time (Evenings/Weekends) to suit each individuals needs.

Q.2    Do I have to pay for the course up front?

If you can afford to pay in full upfront, Great! However, if this does not suit your budget we have a3-step payment plan in place, which is 35% on enrollment with two equal installments thereafter. Please also be aware that there is an additional 2.5%charge for the use of Credit Cards.

Q.3    How do I book onto a course?

You can find an application form on our website, or alternatively email the office on info@collegeofhairandbeauty.ie and we will post you out an application form. If you forward this to us with35% this will secure your place on your desired course. Please note that all booking deposits are non- refundable and non-transferable.

Q.4    Is there anything else I need to know?

The use of a computer and printer is not an necessity but it is highly recommended on all courses as it makes the work load lighter for the student. Students will need paper, pens and folders. Reflecting the high standard of training and success rate of our students, the course does require that the student be willing to practice at home therefore will need to purchase kits that can be used in college and for home use.

Q.5    What if I have already passed an exam previously?

This is known as Accredited Prior Learning: If you have passed an ITEC or CIBTAC module (or equivalent) you will not have to re-sit that exam again i.e. if you have completed Holistic Massage and have passed your exams in Unit 1 (A&P) and Unit 22 (Professional Conduct & Business Awareness) then when you join our Reflexology Course you will not need tore-sit those modules and you can concentrate solely on studying and passing Unit 4 (Reflexology Practical & Theory).

Q.6    Are the Teachers Qualified?

Each of our tutors hold Internationally recognised Teaching Qualifications, Industry Related Qualifications on the course they are committed to teach and commercial experience. We hand pick our tutors based on their passion and skills. If you choose to train at Sharon Leavy College of Hair and Beauty, we guarantee you quality training with the top tutors in the Industry.

Q.7    What subjects should I study in 5th and 6th year?

Biology, Business and Home Economics. Each of these subjects overlap with various topics you’ll need to cover throughout the year, whether it is knowing how a plug is wired to what a cell is. While you may not be applying to college through the traditional CAO points system don’t slack with your leaving cert studies.

Q.8    Do you not think I should study in a college in Dublin or Galway rather that herein Portlaoise?

Definitely not. You will need you family and friends around you to model for all the amazing treatments you are going to learn so you can practice as much as possible. You will probably purchase a portable couch to work on and you will need space at home to set this up. Student flats in Dublin or Galway don’t come with a spare room that can be turned into your beauty room at the click of a switch. The cost of renting and living in Dublin or Galway is extremely expensive, save it for when you need to print an assignment and have no ink or need a new pot of wax to practice.

Q.9    Would you recommend doing the workshops at the same time as Beauty Therapy or wait till after?

It depends on the course. Some part time courses like the nail technician course require more effort than a workshop like threading. It’s definitely something to consider as you will need to complete a workshop outside your course and show this to the CIDESCO examiner and it would be great to organise this early in the year so you don’t panic last minute. The workshops are great to specialise in and continue your professional development. When you do apply for a job employers generally ask what additional skills you bring to the team so these workshops help you stand out from all other candidates.

Q.10    Any tips for an incoming student?

Be organised. Be responsible. Pay attention. Work hard. You have invested a large amount of money and time in this course make sure you get the best possible qualification so you know every cent spent was worth it and you will reap the rewards in the future.
